Proceedings from conferences, lecture series or seminars can look awkward in print. Tumbled together, often pell-mell, from hurriedly revised papers on a diffusely expansive subject, hard to harmonize for editors and difficult to arrange in a meaningful order in the pages of a volume which frequently is only held together thanks to the bookbinder’s trusty services, the result can be as useless to scholars, who, as indices are usually impossible on a tight editorial budget, have to rummage huge amounts of disorderly text for some nuggets of information, as it is mind-boggling to the adventurous student who has been led to a foray into specialist studies by an electronic search tool or bibliography.
