Womens Writing of the First World War. An Anthology. Ed. Angela K. Smith.
The women writers of World War One are important recorders of womens historical experience, and they give us invaluable insight into womens lives and their reactions and feelings in those momentous times. The war made a tremendous impact upon women, politically, socially and psychologically; causing profound changes in womens selfimage. The war influenced every aspect of womens lives and provided all classes of women with important opportunities to work outside the home. The impressive achievements of women doctors and nurses, of women police and other service auxiliaries, of former domestic servants in factories, eventually had an enormous influence on public opinion in favour of womens suffrage.
