Kieran Dolin: A Critical Introduction to Law and Literature.
While the law and literature movement as a distinct academic discipline is of comparatively recent (mid- to late twentieth century) vintage, literature and the law have in fact intersected and engaged with each other in a number of ways throughout history: the law, inevitably a matter of language, draws on literature and literary tropes; literature draws on the law; both draw on a common culture. The law demands to regulate and contain creative expression; creative expression at times challenges or even defies the law.
