A New Version of Part of Chaucer’s ‘Lak of Stedfastnesse’
British Library MS Additional 37049 is a collection mainly of Middle English verse, often held to be some form of Carthusian vernacular anthology. On fols 85–6 there occurs a poem that appears uniquely as no. 558 in the Index of Middle English Verse. The entry (described as ‘Moral Distiches’ [sic]), incorporates versions or parts of several other entries.
